A late winter ski up Specimen Creek in Yellowstone national Park.
This area was burned by the owl fire in 2007 and a ski up the creek leads you past the burnt zone. A stark yet beautiful area of burnt trees provided contrast on an overcast chilly morning.
Leaving the burnt zone behind there are open meadows and thick lodgepole pine forest which follow the creek slowly onward and upward to the mountains beyond.
A beautiful meadow with mountain views made a nice place to stop and soak it all in.
We were treated to the song of an American Dipper on the return to the car as the sun came out to cap off a wonderful spring day.

Nice set of photos. Lots of snow around. We woke to 3” of fresh snow today. But, it will be near 70 by the end of the week. I will leave the shovel stowed in the garage. Let nature melt it.

HI Jim, we have had a pattern of snow-melt-snow-melt going on for a few weeks just as I thought spring had finally arrived and it is forecast to continue for a few more cycles although no 70’s just 50’s.

Thanks for taking us along on this beautiful ski track in Yellowstone, Mike. Wonderful to see an American Dipper, and the burn site makes it a unique scene. I especially like the photo where it looks like it’s raining on the fir trees (4th one), and love that second one from the last with the spot of blue sky and glimpse of the creek under the deep snow. Gorgeous photos, as always.

Hi Jet and thanks. We were really surprised when we saw the dipper as we could here him singing away up ahead of us in the creek and his song was magnificent, long and like a well played symphony.

Beautiful scenery, the contrast between the old burned trees and the young new trees speaks of renewal. Nature is amazing.

Hi Eliza, I always find it fascinating to travel through burnt areas of forest. This one was in that early stage of regrowth and some only mildly burnt making for much contrast along the way.
