Looking like it just finished a meal this Red tailed Hawk was right back at it. Watching the fields intently for a mouse to stir and trying to make the most of the short days this time of year.
Hi Josh, I think most raptors move along to warmer climate to be able to get the food they need and avoid the cold although there are exceptions to every rule.
Fierce-looking character… Mice beware!
I do think there is no mouse problem in the field this hawk patrols.
They are so beautiful. Took our squirrel population down to a reasonable level a couple years ago.
We could duse a few for our squirrel population right now.
I wonder if they have to eat more during the colder months, to keep up with the energetic burden of staying warm?

That makes sense – thanks for the answer!
