An evening rain left frozen pools that had just begun to thaw and clouds lingered throughout the day. Yet all in all it was a perfect hike and one just right for seeking solitude.
HI Jim, it is always fascinating to study and think about those layers int eh desert sandstone. A good example of time passing on a geologic scale that puts a new perspective on things.
‘Time passing…’ For the past 2 weeks, we’ve been living in a house at the water of Tacoma Narrows. The tides flood and ebb twice a day changing the depth by as much as 12 ft. It is soothing to feel the rhythm of the motions of Earth, Sun, and Moon. It creates many and varied moods upon the water. Here are some views from our deck. https://youtu.be/rxt_OnCl_LA
HI Barb, yes it is the needles district but I am not sure of the exact location as I took this photo a few years back on a day long hike that covered a bit of terrain.
This is an excellent national park that I think most people haven’t heard of. We were there briefly two decades ago. We stayed in a brand new hotel that offered bargain rates in an attempt to fill some of the many rooms that were still empty.
Hi and thanks for the feedback. We really appreciate it. It was a nice spot with so much to see in all levels of the landscape so slowing down just a bit to get all those levels in focus was worth the effort. Hope your day is going well.
I like the layering in the distant rocks.

, stone temple horizon
…and a temple that is a pleasure to be in as well.
A water-worn landscape – ice and water continuing to do its work. The foreground looks almost hammered – nice shot.
Hi Eliza, I like the contrast in the foreground rock being hammered as you say with the layer cliffs in the distance.
A geologist would have a lovely day here!
HI and yes a wonderful place to learn a little geology as well.
The Needles District? Chesler Park?

Looks like a peaceful landscape Mike. Happy new week ahead.
Thanks Miriam, it was a peaceful landscape and the week ahead is shaping up to be a fine one. Hope your week is a great one as well.

Hi Steve, I bet those bargain rates have turned to premium rates by now.
Very nice, can’t wait to visit this place😊
Hi and thanks, we hope you do get to visit one day.
Superb landscape shot, keeping foreground, middle ground, and background all in focus.
Regards,
