As we sat quietly waiting for a group of Waxwings to show up in the berry filled shrubs nearby this fine looking fellow strolled up to within 10 feet or so from us. He seemed not too worried about our presence and went about foraging as he made his way through the forest.
Have you ever noticed the pupil on some animals is a horizontal slit?

Hi Jim and yes we have. Many deer, sheep and some goats infect seem to have this type of pupil

Same eyes as goats and sheep, they must be related somehow, I’d guess.

I believe they are all found in grazing prey animals and the horizontal slit expands the animals field of view.
