Brand spanking new with crusty beak and all. A little Killdeer partially hidden in some bushes next to a ditch along the side of a quiet dirt road. Why do Killdeer seem to nest so close to roads?

A fine looking bluebird couple hanging out on a post along the road to Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. This couple was taking a break from chasing away the tree swallows from their nesting box along the road. It seemed like at every nest box along the road similar battles were taking place.
