X marks the spot

Moving up a ridge in Bryce Canyon with long shadows and those ubiquitous pesky jet trails guiding us towards to the top on a hazy morning hike. Even when seeking solitude those darn jets trails remind us we are not so far away.

Snowy Saturday Ski

Snowy_saturday_1

Peeking out from the trail for a view along the Slate River last Saturday morning. The snow was flying and the snow pillows built up on the spruce tress were releasing with the slightest breeze. This made for several close calls along the way but luck was on our side and we did not get dumped on that morning. Photographed with my phone near Crested Butte, CO.

Winter Snag

SOunds_1

Old trees like this snag as well as downed uncleared patches of trees provide critical habitat for numerous species of birds, insects and mammals that allow ecosystems to be diverse and healthy. I also find them beautiful to look at and exciting to photograph and this old guy is a prime example. Crown Hill Park, Wheat Ridge, CO.
