Snowing, blowing and chilly. Winter has arrived. On Christmas it began to snow but now it is just downright chilly -7 F (-21C) this morning with light snow and a bit of a breeze. Tonight it is forecast to be -14 F (-25C). Time to throw that extra blanket on the bed.

A Lesser Yellowlegs foraging in a temporary pond alongside a county road in Eastern Colorado last spring. I sure wish we would get some snow soon as without it winter feels like a strange spring that lacks the birds and has short days.

The layers of rolling hillside in Yellowstone National Park take on a special quality unique to the season after the green of summer has gone but before the snow arrives. Yes, the hills are alive. Yellowstone National Park, Sept 2014.
