It seems like no matter how quietly I try to kayak by and photograph Mergansers there is always one who seem to catch on to the action. Two different groups on two different days same result.

Just hanging out in the spruce happy to make your day. A Yellow Rumped warbler sings away. Grand Teton National Park, WY.
Eyeing Berries
This American Robin is eyeing a vine filled with berries all the while eyeing me trying to discern if it is safe to make his move. After a few minutes assessing the situation this guy flew into the vine out of sight but was definitely heard feasting away on this fall bounty.

Precarious Perch
When we spotted this Juvenile Black Crowned Night Heron in a tree at sunset he took off flew a quick circle and landed agin on the smallest thinest branch of the tree. Wobbling back and forth flapping his wings to keep steady….kids will be kids.
Red Winged Blackbird
A Red winged Blackbird ushering October. His breeding colors are fading and soon it will be time to head for warmer climes but today he welcomes in the new month with a lovely morning song.
Common Merganser
Oh to be a teenager.

Bath Time
Ahhh…one last bath on a fine fall day. A Magpie bathing in a small pond as the sun shines on an unseasonably warm fall afternoon.
Lichen,Rock and Spruce.
We were up high in the mountains a week or two ago and much to our surprise there were numerous butterflies going about their business even as the nights have been cold and the flowers have long died out for this season. Must be slim pickings this time of year for this wonderful comma butterfly foraging on Lichen, Rocks and Spruce.
