The looks says it all. This Jay had his back to me so I was trying to sneak up on him and focus on his very colorful tail feathers. Needless to say he was on to me.

Love this. The blues are so vivid. Great shot. 🙂

Thanks, and thanks to the Jay for providing the opportunity. He must have been eating well this winter to produce such vibrant feathers.

How’d you get the shot? Every time I try to sneak up on the one’s in the yard, they take to the sky so quickly I get a blur… if anything.

Just lucky I guess. I was out in the yard and he landed on the tree went about his business without concern and I had my camera handy with a somewhat long lens on it. Luck indeed.

Great shot…the jays are out and about here too, making lots of noise and being generally obnoxious.

Obnoxious or just being Jays? Hope your day is going great and those Jays are behaving. 🙂

How exciting! I love the colors, and markings of this Female Stellar Jay. I’ve not captured one on film myself. Lucky Dog! 🙂 That over the shoulder look is great!

THanks, it was fun trying to sneak up on this bird but alas she was oh so aware of me. Hope you had a great weekend and we wish you the best for the week ahead.

I love the color of bluejays and you even got its yellow eye – that is awesome!

Hi Eliza, only got his yellow eye cause I was busted. We don’t have tons of Jays around only a couple of pair that patrol the neighborhood so when they stop by it is a pleasure. Hope you had a great weekend.

Thanks, I did. It goes fast.
I was surprised to see the Blue Jay, I thought you only had Western Scrub jays.

No, we have the best of it all. Blue Jays up until the foothills including Denver, and Scrub and Stellar in the foothills and mountains.

That is so great – lucky you – I’m a bit envious. I know jays are maligned – but I like their plucky personalities.

I couldn’t agree more the Jay is just being a Jay. I really enjoy watching them and how they communicate between each other letting the family group know where each of them is. It is really quite impressive behavior.

I believe they are corvids, right? and crows are also fascinating in their familial communication. Sometimes in the late afternoons I’ll listen to several family groups call to one another across the valley- I call it the “4 o’clock news”!
LikeLike
I think they are indeed corvids as well as magpies and crows. The 4 o’clock new sounds great. I usually hear them in my neck of the woods in the morning. It is interesting that the birds which poses an intelligence level closer to humans are considered a nuisance. Just thinking out loud there. 🙂

It would be a great psyche study, don’t you think? Humans and the animals they consider a ‘nuisance’ – (given the parameters, we could put our species at the top of the list!)

It would be a good study for sure. It is a bit like how we consider some species invasive without putting the most invasive of them all in the mix.

Stink eye, I like that term, new to me but I will use it more often. 🙂

LOL! I don’t know where that term is from but have always heard it — “the stink eye,”. which I think is probably better than “the evil eye”. 😀

Stinky is way eviler than evil. 🙂

Skink eye + evil curse in my humble opinion. Watch out for the stink eye for sure. 🙂
