Thanks, always fun to see these hawks perched high above the prairie dog colonies. A direct reminder of of a complete ecosystem.

Another fabulous photo. Reminds me of a buzzard we nicknamed ‘Claude’ that used to visit our garage roof. It was very partial to smokey bacon scraps!

I think I am with Claude in that I would also prefer bacon over prairie dog but I am not a hawk. Have a great week.

I love hawks. Not sure why but always amazed and excited to see them, especially in the city. I never think of them as city birds but they are in my neck of the woods — looking so serious. Looking for food. π

My favorite hawk and city experience was when I was walking down a busy street in Seattle and came across a huge group of crows making a giant ruckus. They had trapped a Coopers Hawk in a tree and surrounded him. I think I still have a recording of the noise on my phone.

Wow! Now, THAT’S a story! I didn’t know the crows were so tough and not scared of the hawk. So, what happened? What did the crows do? What did the hawk do?

Well, the hawk finally made a move for it and flew away. I am not sure if fled due to the crow harassment or the large group of people who had started to watch.

Haha! Sounds like a smart hawk, either way. π
