They make a nice couple don’t you think? It feels like just a day or two ago the ducks left town signaling the arrival of spring. Now the ducks are returning to the local ponds suggesting winter will soon show it’s face. A great time to to get out and have some fun.

Me too, it is always amazing to get a close view of the feathers and patterns on ducks. They are complex and beautiful.

Very nice light and composition–for some reason Gadwalls are rare on the lakes in Howard county but common in parts of Baltimore Harbor which is about 15 miles away as the duck flies.

Out Here in CO they are not abundant but we usually have a pair or two that spend the winter on the local ponds or rivers.

I saw a pair of Gadwalls at the Slimbridge wildfowl and wetland centre, UK and 2 Gadwall x Mallard hybrids in swan lake. 🙂

Gadwall mallard hybrids? I have yet to see those but it may explain why I sometimes can not ID some ducks.
