A lone Bufflehead and several flocks of Geese waiting for the fog to lift and sun to rise on a short December day.
Keeping warm was the main activity on the frigid morning -7F (-21C) along the South Platte river where I am sure the water was warmer than the air.

Stunning shot! Wow!

Thanks, it was a really cold morning and with all the fog rising from the water the birds were almost lost on the river.

Thanks, the cold and fog from the river really made this a special albeit chilly morning. Good thing a thermos of coffee was waiting in the car. 🙂

Hi, the buffleheads white on top of his head let me ID this guy as well as his size compared to the geese. Hope you are doing well today.

Thanks for liking the geese. They are a bit of a contentious bird to love. They overrun the parks, poo all over the place and can be somewhat aggressive. I had one chase me in flight two days in a row a few years back while I was ridding my bicycle down the bike path on the way to work. Too cold this morning for them to do much but wait till the sun came out.

You’er welcome Mike. I also had geese chase me one time while I was feeding ducks beside a pond. I finally had to drop the bread and continued running to the car lol.

They can be quite cantankerous. Did they make you drop your bread in the chase? 🙂

Yes lol. Some man saw it all happen and he was hilariously laughing. 😀

Without your description I may have wondered if they were strange creatures in a Scottish Loch. Great atmosphere. 🙂

Hi Jane, I really liked that the fog made it somewhat mysterious and that even common birds like giant flocks of geese took on that mysterious feel in the cold and fog. Hope your weekend is great.
