Beautiful shot, Mike! I love prairie dogs so much. They are so discriminated against, and are actually outlawed in most counties of NM.
Have you read Terry Tempest-Williams book, Finding Beauty in a Broken World? In part of it, she volunteers for a research project with a prairie dog town. She has some wonderful insights and stories about this group. Part of it is they stand like this and face the sun every morning for sunrise and do the same at sundown. Like a prayer. It is really well written. Thanks for this picture. Good way to start the day – both looking at this picture and facing the sun.
Hi and I can relate to the prairie dogs facing the sun as I sometimes like to do that myself. Seems to be very relaxing for me.
I have not read the book you mentioned but will see if I can find a copy.
Research on prairie dog colonies and the benefits they provide to the ecosystem are very interesting. We consider them a bit of a nuisance but that is far from the reality.
