It seems like every winter we get a short but welcome visit from a pair of Bald Eagles on the stretch of Platte River we frequent on a regular basis. This year was no exception as this one showed up on a snowy January morning. According to reports their mate was spotted just up river.

Beautiful! We get them in New Mexico in the winter. But they never let us get close enough for a photo like this.

Hi hope things are going well. This guy had is eye on the ducks below in the river so he was a bit tolerant of me.

Excellent capture! We have some eagles over here in Ridgway along the Uncompaghre River and Ridgway Reservoir. So happy they’ve made a strong come-back over recent years.

Hi Denise, yes it is great to see Eagles in Colorado almost on every river in the winters. We need to get down that way for a bit of R and R this winter.

Utterly stunning photo, Mike. I love to see the hook on a bald eagle’s bill, and it is featured brightly and clearly here. I would love to visit the Platte River some day, it is a grand wilderness from all I have read.

HI Jet, well this stretch of the South Plate run right through Denver so not real wilderness. The North Platte is a bit more wild in places especially in WY.

We have a lot of them now along the Iowa River. It has been cold and froze a lot of the river surface. They congregate below the spillways to snatch the fish.

Hi Jim, we only have a few around Denver. When we drove to the modest and crossed the Iowa river on I-80 we actually saw a pair in the trees.

Great photo. This time of year in my home state of Idaho, Eagles congregate along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene and fish for Kokanee Salmon. They are an awesome sight.

Hi and that sounds wonderful. We have never visited Lake Coeur d’Alene although we did spend a day on Lake Pend Oreille near Sandpoint on our drive home form the west coast. Got to get there some day.
