We usually do not see Grebes on the local pond during winter in our neck of the woods. However, last week, this Western Grebe was swimming in a small section of a local pond that remained unfrozen. Perhaps she if off course in migration and landed here to rest and refuel. Although it was a pleasure to see her, I hope she takes advantage of this weeks thaw to get back on track and is gone the next time I visit this pond.
Maybe she just wanted to get away from the flock for some peace and quiet.

What an auspicious visitor! There have been many strange sightings in our area this year. Certainly a sign to pay attention to.

Hi I agree we need to pay attention to the changes occurring. I bet if we all had a way to document them in some way there would be good data there.

Some do note their sightings on ebird.

That is something to consider. I wish there was a bigger version that combined bird data with other species sighting. A giant all encompassing e-nature.
