We seemed to have settled into a very late fall like weather pattern as of late with sunshine appearing mid-morning then giving way to cloudy afternoon skies. We spotted this good looking Red Tailed Hawk on one of those cloudy afternoons perched on the remnants of a very fall looking tree.

Getting eye to eye with a local magpie who was hanging out on picnic table waiting for lunch to arrive. Unfortunately picnic season is over. However I am fairly confident the ever resourceful magpie will find a bite to eat somewhere.

Just when you think you are sneaking up nicely to get a good close up this hawk takes notice with a 180 degree turn on the head. I wonder what it would be like to have eyes in the back of your heads. Maxwell wildlife refuge, Maxwell NM.

A sweet female house finch hanging around looking for  the bird feeders which we have yet to put out in an attempt to keep the squirrels out of the remaining tomatoes in the garden. Our first frost is a bit overdue this fall.
