A willet enjoys the temporary ponds and the meals within created by spring rain along the front range while migrating to a more suitable habitat along further north.

Wood Thrush
For me the Wood Thrush is a bird I may often hear but seldom seem. Hanging out in those forests deep with green and hidden out of sight they have such a wonderful song. After listening to his song for several minutes this Wood Thrush flew out and landed on a post in a clearing for a minute or two before retuning back into the woods. Love the pudgy belly on this one.
Warm Welcome
A male house finch enjoying the ever earlier sunrise as spring marches onward. With rare exception early April seems to mark the time of year we begin to see and hear the finches in our neighborhood each year and as the sun rises earlier everyday they provide a warm welcome to those still crisp but beautiful spring mornings.
Common Yellowthroat
A common Yellowthroat hiding in the reeds. This guys was darting around from cattail to cattail for what seemed like eternity but finally held still for just a moment to allow us to take his portrait and get a good look. It is always tons of fun to be able to observe an bird not familiar to you. A little surprise that makes the day distinct.
Easter Basket
Looking up into bright blue skies to see a wonderful old Oriole nest greeting the fresh new leaves is a wonderful way to welcome in spring. Young and old shake hands and the dance continues on. Enjoy your day.

Hello…Quail Calling
A male Gambel’s quail letting it be know he is a very available bachelor on a nice spring morning in western Colorado.
Wilson’s Phalarope
Long legs and all, a Wilson’s Phalarope is checking out a temporary pond along the ditch on a country road in northern Colorado last spring. Can’t wait to see these guys again this spring but that is month or two and a few spring showers away. Happy Tuesday.
Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker
We followed this guy around in very dark pine forest while on a hike in Yellowstone National Park for quite some time before he finally settled down for a little break. Luckily he chose a spot where just enough light was getting in through the trees to get a somewhat decent photograph of this wonderful looking bird. It was the first time we had seen a Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker and hopefully not the last.
