Snow up high and rain moving in down low along the Buffalo Fork of the Snake River in Wyoming. Fall colors in the Valley and dark clouds up high portend the early arrival of old man winter.

Quiet Time
With the firm arrival of fall comes a quieter time of year. The songbirds have left and the animals have hunkered down. There will be sunny days but the cloudy days become more frequent as October marches on.
In a dark forest
As the day came to an end a beam of sunlight illuminated golden aspen leaves in what was otherwise a dimly light forest.

A Wilson’s Snipe peeking out from the grass in which they were very well hidden.
We saw and waited for quite some time for this guy to move out from behind the grasses in which we could just barely see them moving around foraging.
This is the most we captured but sometimes just a peek is more than enough.
Sowing Seed
A beautiful fall flower getting ready to release the seeds for the next go round.
Although I hesitate to say so does look a bit like any corn.

Up high on a drive over Hagerman Pass the fall colors stole the show.

A day goes into night a late afternoon storm moves from there to here leaving a wonderful sunset in its wake.

In the Aspens
A little flycatcher, a willow or perhaps a yellow or least, the exact type we are unable to determine sits quietly in the Aspens on a cloudy fall day in SW Colorado. If you are skilled at ID’ing these guys feel free to let us know what exact species you think it is.
Green Tailed Towhee
The Green Tailed Towhee spends most of its time in dense low thickets, where it forages on the ground. Like other towhees, it scratches in the leaf-litter with both feet as it searches for food. It is somewhat secretive and difficult to see so we were thrilled to get a quick glimpse at this bird when it quickly flew from a berry thicket and landed on this tree for a few seconds.

Only time will tell.
Time speaks slowly but in a language all can understand that beneath the skin of a landscape now covered with humans lies one of ancient seas and dunes.
