I am going to give my Butterfly ID skills another shot today. Notice how the title ends in a question mark demonstrating my level of confidence.
While hiking the same trail as the one we spotted the Police Car Moths there were many of what look to be Cabbage White females fluttering by looking for just the right flower but never seeming to land. Finally one touched down near us on a nice fresh patch of wild Asters. We snuck up close and then just one more step closer before she flew away. Chasing butterflies is not such a bad way to spend the afternoon even for a grown-up.
Have a great weekend.
While near the end of a recent hike, just tromping along which that feeling that being almost back at the car brings, we ran across this male Moose quietly munching away on the remaining summer greens. We had spent the day trying to take close-ups of the remaining summer wildflowers flowers so the 105 mm macro lens was on the camera. Good thing this guy was so close.
Near Crested Butte, CO.

While out on a morning walk we heard this Stellar’s Jay calling from within a dim forest filled with lichen covered trees. We followed the calling and when he briefly moved into a small patch of filtered morning light got a glimpse of a wonderful Jay who seemed right at home in his wonderful forest of lichen and light

What does the Prairie Dog do to refuel after digging holes for several hours, reach for an energy bar or gatorade, no way a nice handful of dandelion green will do the trick.
