I used to like watching grebes (don’t know what sort) when I sailed with with my father, could never predict where they were going to pop up again!

Wendy, we have experienced that trying to photograph them. They dive under and you stand waiting looking in one direction and they surface 100 yards away in the opposite direction. Although on the bright side when they dive down it gives you a good chance to get closer to them from the shore and if you guess the right direction it puts you in position for a good shot. have a great day.

Hi Eliza, yes we are lucky to live in an area where within an hour we can be in the mountains or heading the other way into the vast grasslands.

They are cool aren’t they. THe way they can just sink and disappear. It usually happens when I am trying to take a photo..now you see em…now you don’t. We just got lucky and saw this one on a nest in a pretty accessible spot.
