A Northern Rough Winged Swallow settles down next to a Barn Swallow for a much needed rest after buzzing about trying to catch some early season insects hatching on a small pond.

Last of the day
We spotted this Belted Kingfisher catching the last rays of late February sunlight as we were near the end of an afternoon walk. We regularly see a Kingfisher along this stretch of the river but it is very mindful of our presence and usually keeps just out of photo range. This day we were able to get a step closer but just barley close enough for a photo. Clear Creek, Denver CO.
Pronghorn
While we were taking photos of bison off in the distance a pronghorn walked right behind me and started feeding before giving me the once over.
First Finch
It may be close to March but it feels like mid-to-late April. The tulips are pushing up leaves before the crocus have bloomed and the Finches have displaced the Junco and Chickadee in the trees round the neighborhood.
Western Scrub Jay
Blue blue sky and a bright blue bird. Western Scrub Jay keeping a watchful eye on us as enjoyed an afternoon snack.
Fast Forward
Although it might be several months before we see an American Avocet it sure feels like their arrival is right around the corner. February this year has felt more like late spring than late winter.

Ice Capades
Last weekend we watched numerous crows scooting, slipping and sliding around on the frozen lake ice looking for food. They kept cawing to each other and it sure looked like they were having a great time.
Ice Fishing
We watched this Otter dry off on the ice and then quickly dive back into the water looking for fish on Yellowstone lake.
Another successful day out on the ice for this Otter.
