I have always found mushrooms fascinating life forms. Not plant, not animal yet vitally important for the health of both plants and animals. However, they are a bugger to photograph yet I never stop trying.
Paul Stamets wrote a great book on Fungus call “Mycellium Running” and delivered a very interesting TED talk several years ago:
I love mushrooms and have so many that I have photographed. I always think I will compile them into a book but so many are printed while others are digital. So far, not enough dedicated time for it. Love your images!

Nothing beats a mushroom for photographing on a windy day. Well, maybe an interesting rock. Stamets is a genius.

Hi Steve, We were hooked following Stamets after we read his book. It is wonderful when you encounter someone with alternative points of view and backing up with proper science.

I recommend “How to Change Your Mind” by Michael Pollan. Yes, the food guy. In it he discusses mushrooms and LSD and how they might be helpful to many.

Hi Jim, I had read a few studies on psilocybin being studied as a treatment for depression and they sounded interesting. I had not heard about LSD as a treatment. It seems like those two are good examples of how substances once considered 100% negative by some may offer remedies. I guess the position is indeed in the dose.

Yes. At least some good studies of effectiveness are in order. It is a debilitating disease.

The thing about photographing mushrooms is that you’re on your knees or flat on the ground to do it much of the time. Great shots.

I hear you on getting low for those mushroom shots. Dirty closes and beanbag a requisite for a day photographing mushrooms.

Wonderful images, they are so fascinating and equally hard to photograph.

Hi Karen, yes they do make you get down to their level for a photo and always seem to grow where there is poor light. 🙂

Without fungi, plants could not dominate the land. And without both of them, we would not be able to harvest the sun’s energy for ourselves. Yay fungi!!

I agree, they seem to do so much but get so little respect. Here’s to fungi. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
